The building has poured drinks since the early 1890s and never changed hands until 2015 - the music hall attached to it was a Croatian and Slovenian fraternal lodge built in 1903. Globe Hall, at 4483 Logan Street in Denver's Globeville neighbourhood, is a Texas-style barbecue joint, dive bar and 200-capacity music venue occupying what locals believe is the longest-surviving saloon in the district. The history is working-class Denver distilled: the bar served workers from the Globe Smelting and Refining Company that gave the neighbourhood its name, ran as the 16-to-1 Exchange under union politico Max Malich in the early 1900s, and the adjoining St. Jacob's Lodge Hall housed a fraternal benefits society - an early community health plan. Later lives included the Logan Grill and the Sidewinder Tavern. Texas native Jeff Cornelius bought the property from the original lodge and opened Globe Hall in November 2015, keeping the deep-red Formica bar top, the church pews and the fading Coors sign while installing "Betty" - a 6,600-pound Oyler rotisserie smoker capable of holding 1,800 pounds of meat - to chase Austin-standard brisket. The venue now belongs to the stable of Gwen and Scott Campbell, the independent operators behind the Larimer Lounge and Lost Lake, and the booking spans Americana, alt-country, indie rock, bluegrass, reggae, tejano, metal and blues - a nightly calendar that has made the room one of Denver's essential small stages. Barbecue is served cafeteria-style, with the patio absorbing summer overflow. Practicalities: the corner sits five minutes from downtown just off the Washington Street exit from Interstate 70, near the National Western Complex - stock-show season packs the block each January. Most shows are ticketed separately from the restaurant, and all-ages policies vary by event.
