To get in, you walk through a 24 Hour Fitness, up the stairs and across a parking lot toward a glowing sign that still says Hawaiian Brian's - and behind it waits 21,000 square feet of pool tables, dartboards and live music. HB Social Club, at 1680 Kapiolani Boulevard near Ala Moana in Honolulu, is the city's great all-purpose night-out warehouse, operating since the mid-1980s. Locals knew it for decades as Hawaiian Brian's - a billiards hall and dive bar dating to 1983 that settled at the Kapiolani address two years later. As the operation grew music rooms and event spaces, it rebranded to HB Social Club in 2019 to reflect what it had become: a multi-venue entertainment complex rather than a pool hall with a stage in the corner. The floor plan reads like a small festival site: Crossroads, the 500-capacity concert hall that hosts touring reggae, EDM, hip-hop, metal and island-music acts - Citizen Cope and Mike Love have both recorded or headlined here; the Slack Key Lounge and the 75-person Studio, longtime home of the Mars underground comedy night; the hidden Electron dance room for house and drum-and-bass; and the billiards hall proper with some 23 tables plus a dedicated dart room. The venue's role in Honolulu's scene is structural: with mid-size mainland-style clubs scarce on Oahu, Crossroads catches a huge share of the touring acts that would otherwise skip the islands, while the complex's open-till-2am, seven-days rhythm makes it the default late option between Waikiki and downtown. Practical notes: full bars run in every room, food service covers pub staples, parking shares the building's lot and surrounding structures, and most shows are 21-plus with occasional all-ages bookings. The entrance through the gym remains the best bad-directions test in Honolulu nightlife.
