South Los Angeles's cultural hub lives in a rehabilitated warehouse campus where Goodyear once built tires. The Beehive at 961 East 61st Street occupies the historic Goodyear Tract, established in 2019 by SoLa Impact as a Black-owned, 68,305-square-foot complex dedicated to giving South LA's creators, entrepreneurs and community organisations a home base. The campus mixes venues and tenants: the Depot Warehouse, a 15,000-square-foot brick hall with a 20-by-20-foot LED screen that seats conferences of 500 and hosts galas, concerts and indoor markets; a 12,000-square-foot Main Courtyard and a connected West Courtyard for open-air events; and a mezzanine and gallery spaces threading between. The Technology and Entrepreneurship Center anchors the education mission - a 13,000-square-foot red-brick warehouse with a Mac lab, video wall and workshop floor built to develop South LA's future tech workforce. The tenant roster carries the point: California's first Black-owned craft brewery, a Black-owned art gallery platforming emerging South LA creatives, a health-conscious restaurant and SoLa Impact's own offices share the block. The events trade spans the full range - weddings, corporate retreats, film shoots, community festivals and concerts - drawing what the operators describe as an audience of community members, political figures and celebrities alike. The larger project is the venue's real identity: SoLa Impact runs the campus as proof that investment, culture and opportunity can be built in South LA by the community it serves, with the Beehive as the public square of that argument. The campus keeps a working calendar of its own beyond private hire - markets, career fairs, film screenings and youth tech programs run through the year - and its location a few minutes off the 110 freeway makes it one of the few large-format event complexes actually inside South Los Angeles rather than on its edges.
