The Fillmore - Charlotte

A century-old textile mill in Charlotte's Fourth Ward wears San Francisco's most famous rock-and-roll decor. The Fillmore Charlotte opened on June 19, 2009, inside the NC Music Factory - now the AvidxChange Music Factory - with a launch show by Corey Smith and a first season that ran from B.B. King to the Black Crowes. Live Nation built the 20,000-square-foot, 2,000-capacity room as a deliberate copy of the original 1805 Geary Boulevard template: red-painted interior, red oak hardwood floors, magnificent chandeliers, red velvet draperies and vintage psychedelic concert posters, all fitted into the brick shell of a hundred-year-old fiber mill. The industrial bones were kept on show - exposed ceilings, original wall finishes and mill-era materials - with the roof physically raised above the staging area to fit modern sound and lighting rigs, and stadium-style tiers cut into the floor so sightlines hold from any spot in the room. The venue anchors the Music Factory complex alongside the 5,000-capacity Skyla Credit Union Amphitheatre, and in 2016 gained a sibling downstairs when The Underground, a 750-capacity club, opened in a space formerly occupied by a country bar - giving the campus three rungs of touring-room sizes. The booking calendar runs the full Live Nation range - rock, country, hip-hop, metal, EDM and comedy - and the room has hosted Jason Mraz, the Smashing Pumpkins, the Foo Fighters and a decade and a half of acts breaking between club and arena size in one of the South's strongest concert markets. A VIP mezzanine with granite-countertop bars overlooks the general-admission floor, and the flexible tiered layout lets the same room run corporate events, private concerts and weddings between tour dates - Charlotte's largest club-format music venue by a comfortable margin. For Charlotte the venue's arrival marked the moment the city graduated into a top-ten Live Nation market: the Fillmore branding was a statement that the circuit now considered the city a permanent stop rather than a drive-through between Atlanta and Washington.
