Agora Theatre - Cleveland

Founded by Henry LoConti in 1966 as a members-only dance club at Case Western Reserve, the Agora has grown into one of Cleveland's most storied concert venues across three locations over nearly six decades. The current home at 5000 Euclid Avenue occupies a building that dates to 1913, when it opened as the Metropolitan Theatre with a performance of Aida. The structure later served as the WHK Auditorium and the Cleveland Grande before LoConti relocated the Agora here in October 1986, reopening with a Quiet Riot concert after a fire damaged the previous East 24th Street location in 1984. The complex contains two performance spaces: an 1,800-seat main theatre and a 500-capacity standing-room-only ballroom with an adjoining bar. The main theatre handles nationally touring rock, metal, hip-hop, and alternative acts, while the ballroom books smaller shows and DJ nights. The venue is available for private rentals and corporate events. At its peak in the late 1970s, LoConti expanded the Agora brand to a dozen cities including Columbus, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Tampa, and Fort Lauderdale. After his death in 2014, former Peabody's owner Chris Zitterbart took over operations. The Agora is the traditional host of Cleveland-based band Mushroomhead's annual Halloween show, one of the most anticipated events on the local concert calendar. The venue sits on the GCRTA HealthLine at the East 51st Street stop, offering direct rapid-transit access from downtown Cleveland and University Circle. The Midtown neighbourhood surrounding the Agora has seen steady reinvestment in recent years, with new restaurants and creative businesses filling formerly vacant storefronts along Euclid Avenue. The Agora's phone line is 216-881-2221, and the current event schedule is maintained at agoracleveland.com.
