The idea for the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum began in 1944, when the Fort Wayne Junior Chamber of Commerce proposed building a field house dedicated as a war memorial. Existing buildings in the area were too small for the larger community functions -- sports events, concerts, and civic gatherings -- that the city needed. The vision eventually became reality at 4000 Parnell Avenue in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where the coliseum has served as a department of the County of Allen ever since, with oversight from the elected Board of Commissioners and an appointed Board of Trustees. The multi-purpose arena hosts a packed calendar of concerts by nationally touring artists, family shows such as Disney on Ice and Sesame Street Live, professional and amateur hockey, wrestling, monster trucks, and community events. It is the longtime home of the Fort Wayne Komets, one of the most storied minor-league hockey franchises in the United States.
