Every New Brunswick Day long weekend since 2016, the AREA 506 Festival has transformed the Saint John waterfront into the province's biggest outdoor music event. Named for the telephone area code that covers southern New Brunswick, the festival takes place at 85 Water Street beside the Waterfront Container Village at Pugsley Terminal and features a main stage, food vendors, artisan markets, and cultural programming that together celebrate the region's creative community. For its eleventh edition in 2026, the festival expanded to four days for the first time, running from Thursday 30 July through Sunday 2 August. Founded by Ray Gracewood, AREA 506 has been recognised as one of Atlantic Canada's premier festivals and has earned a Canadian Tourism Award for its Waterfront Container Village. The village of repurposed shipping containers creates a backdrop for vendors, brands, and cultural organisations to showcase local artisans, craftspeople, and musicians. The festival is a rain-or-shine event held under a large tent. Gates open between 2 PM and 6 PM depending on the day. The site is smoke-free and vape-free.
