What began as a craft brewery at 201 41st Street South in Birmingham's Avondale neighbourhood has grown into one of Alabama's premier outdoor concert destinations. Avondale Brewing Company launched in 2011, and its spacious backyard -- a pavilion-covered area with artificial turf, picnic tables, and a neighbourhood feel -- now hosts a year-round concert programme booked by Red Mountain Entertainment (a Live Nation partner) and promoted in collaboration with Birmingham Mountain Radio. The main outdoor concert space holds approximately 2,000 to 3,000 depending on configuration, with a clear-bag policy, cashless concessions, and two water refill stations. A smaller indoor space called The Upstairs accommodates 140 standing or 90 seated for intimate performances and private events. Concessions include Avondale's own craft beers, domestics, spirits, wine, and seltzers, with food vendors rotating based on the event. Outside food is always welcome. The concert calendar has drawn headliners including Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, The String Cheese Incident, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Band of Horses, Coheed and Cambria, and Dinosaur Jr. Isbell, who grew up in the nearby Shoals region, has called Avondale one of his favourite places to play. Reduced-capacity shows during the pandemic earned the venue goodwill from fans, and momentum has only grown since. The venue sits in the heart of Avondale, one of Birmingham's most popular entertainment zones, surrounded by restaurants, bars, and retail along 41st Street South. On-site parking is limited; rideshare services are recommended, and two nearby paid lots plus street parking provide alternatives.
