The 78-million-dollar College Park Center opened on February 1, 2012, as the centerpiece of the University of Texas at Arlington's downtown campus. The 218,000-square-foot multipurpose arena serves as the home court for UTA's men's and women's basketball and volleyball programs as well as the WNBA's Dallas Wings. Seating capacity varies by configuration: 7,250 for in-the-round concerts, 6,500 for end-stage shows, 5,200 for half-house events, and 7,000 for traditional court-based athletics. Energy-efficient features earned the building Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification. Low-emittance glazed windows, a highly reflective roof that reduces the building's solar load, and a low-use water system all contributed to the sustainability rating. The arena floor spans 12,000 square feet and features a removable maple wood court for basketball and volleyball. Production capabilities include Daktronics end-hung and four-sided center-hung video boards, four 400-amp and two 200-amp electrical services at floor level, a 200-amp service at catwalk level, full broadcast and video production facilities, and wireless internet throughout. A 2,800-square-foot hospitality suite divisible into three private sections, two 7,700-square-foot practice courts, full concessions with in-house catering, and three dock bays with a drive-up ramp round out the backstage and support infrastructure. Since opening, the venue has hosted Grammy Award-winning concerts and national tournaments including the NIT, WNIT, and NIVC.
