Great American Ball Park

Perched on the banks of the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati with views of the Kentucky hills and the Roebling Suspension Bridge, Great American Ball Park has been the home of baseball's oldest professional franchise since opening on March 31, 2003. The 280-million-dollar stadium replaced Cinergy Field, the multipurpose concrete bowl formerly known as Riverfront Stadium, that had served the Reds from 1970 to 2002. Designed by HOK Sport of Kansas City, the open-air park covers 29 acres and uses a natural grass playing surface spanning 2.9 acres. Seating capacity is 42,319 for regular-season games and has been configured for up to 45,814 for special events, including the 2015 MLB All-Star Game. Field dimensions measure 328 feet down the left-field line, 404 feet to dead centre, and 325 to right. The park sits at 100 Joe Nuxhall Way, renamed in 2007 after the death of former pitcher and longtime Reds broadcaster Joe Nuxhall (the original address was 100 Main Street). The ballpark is accessible via the streetcar and is surrounded by The Banks, a mixed-use development along the riverfront. Parking is available in surface lots and garages in the downtown and riverfront area. Structural elements include 10,100 tons of steel across the 29-acre footprint. The signature architectural feature is the Gap, an opening in the right-centre-field seating bowl that frames views of the Ohio River and Kentucky riverbank from the main concourse. Steamboat smokestacks above the batter's eye pay tribute to Cincinnati's riverboat heritage. The park hosts concerts, festivals, and community events beyond the regular baseball season. The Reds Hall of Fame and Museum is located adjacent to the main entrance, providing year-round access to the franchise's 140-plus years of history. The Reds Hall of Fame and Museum is open year-round at the main entrance.
