PNC Park

Widely regarded as one of the most beautiful ballparks in Major League Baseball, PNC Park opened on March 31, 2001, on the North Shore of Pittsburgh along the Allegheny River. The 216-million-dollar stadium, designed by HOK Sport and L.D. Astorino and Associates, was constructed of steel and limestone with a natural Kentucky bluegrass surface. It seats 38,747 for baseball, making it one of the smaller-capacity MLB venues, a deliberate design choice that keeps every seat close to the field. The iconic Roberto Clemente Bridge connects PNC Park to downtown Pittsburgh, and the view from inside the park frames the entire downtown skyline beyond the outfield wall. The two-deck grandstand wraps from foul pole to foul pole, with 54 luxury suites and group party suites tucked between levels. Record attendance reached 40,889 during the 2015 National League Wild Card Game. PNC Park is the fifth home of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Field dimensions measure 325 feet down the left-field line, 399 feet to centre, and 320 to right. Groundbreaking took place on April 7, 1999, and construction was completed in time for the 2001 season opener. The park is served by the Pittsburgh Light Rail North Side station. The address is 115 Federal Street, Pittsburgh, PA 15212. The park's intimate two-deck design, one of the few in MLB, means there is no nosebleed upper deck separating fans from the action. Concessions highlight Pittsburgh staples including Primanti Brothers sandwiches and pierogies. The Riverwalk along the Allegheny provides a pedestrian promenade connecting the park to the surrounding North Shore entertainment area. The Statues of Roberto Clemente, Honus Wagner, Willie Stargell, and Bill Mazeroski stand outside the home-plate entrance. The box office phone number is 412-321-2827. PNC Park is owned by the Sports and Exhibition Authority of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County.
