Opened on November 13, 2008 on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri, Great Southern Bank Arena is an 11,000-seat multipurpose indoor arena that serves as the home court for the Missouri State Bears and Lady Bears basketball teams. Originally known as JQH Arena after alumnus and hotel developer John Q. Hammons, whose 30-million-dollar gift helped fund the 67-million-dollar construction, the venue was renamed in April 2022 through a naming-rights partnership with Great Southern Bank. The arena features 9,637 chairback seats, 1,363 bleacher-back student seats in the end zones, 22 private suites, 114 loge seats, 55 courtside seats, and 120 permanently designated accessible seats with companion spaces. A 4,500-square-foot PRIME Overtime Club provides a premium hospitality area, and the building connects to the adjacent Hammons Student Center via an underground corridor. Concert capacity reaches 10,542 with an end-stage configuration or 8,500 for an end-stage 180-degree setup. Beyond Missouri Valley Conference basketball and postseason tournaments, the arena hosts national touring concerts by artists such as the Eagles, Elton John, and Chris Stapleton, along with family shows, comedy performances, and Professional Bull Riders events. The Missouri Thunder PBR franchise has called the arena home since 2024. The arena's design was led by Ellerbe Becket in association with Pellham Phillips Architects and Engineers, with Martin/Martin providing structural engineering and J.E. Dunn Construction Group serving as general contractor. Six concession stands with 42 points of sale and 12 portable locations serve the concourse, which measures 20 to 25 feet wide. Two elevators and 168 public restroom stations round out the patron amenities. A team store selling Missouri State apparel and souvenirs sits just off the main lobby.
