Widely regarded as one of the finest concert halls in the New York metropolitan area, the 489-seat Samuel J. and Ethel LeFrak Concert Hall occupies the Kupferberg Center for the Arts on the Queens College campus in Flushing, New York. Advanced soundproofing technology and superior acoustics have made the hall a preferred recording location for artists on major labels including Decca and Deutsche Grammophon. The hall features a superb tracker-action organ designed by Bedient Associates expressly for the space, 24 adjustable banner boxes that can be lowered to tune the room's acoustics for different repertoire, computer-controlled theatrical lighting, and professional-quality audio and video equipment. A backstage area with two dressing rooms supports touring and resident performers. Diverse musical genres cross this stage, from gamelan and folk to bluegrass, opera, classical orchestral programs, and jazz. LeFrak Concert Hall sits alongside two other performance spaces within the Kupferberg Center: the 2,085-seat Colden Auditorium, home to the Queens College Choral Society, and the Goldstein Theatre for opera and theatrical productions. Together they form part of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, CUNY, one of the city's most respected conservatory programs. The school's own facilities include a choral room seating 165 and a 74-seat recital hall, both used for student and faculty performances.
