Opened on August 14, 2025 at a cost of $55 million, the M&T Bank Center is a 97,000-square-foot multi-purpose arena at 101 Harborside Drive in the Mohawk Harbor development in Schenectady, New York. The venue seats 2,200 for ice hockey and expands to 3,600 for concerts, trade shows, conventions, and other events, filling a long-standing gap in the Capital Region's mid-size venue market. The arena serves as the new home of Union College's Division I men's and women's hockey programs under a 25-year lease, with the university contributing $20 million toward the project. Additional funding came from New York State, Schenectady County, the City of Schenectady, and private donors. Student-athletes benefit from upgraded locker rooms, dedicated strength-and-conditioning and athletic training spaces, and a spirit shop for Union hockey merchandise. The venue also houses the NY Phoenix of the 94x50 League, who relocated here in 2026. The governor joined local dignitaries for a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and the arena's first public event featured country artist Lee Brice with Rotterdam native David J as the opener. The M&T Bank Center sits within the broader $650 million Mohawk Harbor development alongside Rivers Casino and Resort, hotels, condominiums, apartments, a marina, and an amphitheater, creating a waterfront entertainment district on the Mohawk River. Rivers Casino serves as the presenting sponsor of non-hockey events, and flexible seating configurations, modern hospitality amenities, suites, and a private hospitality area support a year-round calendar of concerts, family shows, sporting events, and community gatherings. The venue is accessible from Interstate 890 and sits a short walk from the Union College campus across Erie Boulevard.
