Protective Stadium is a 47,100-seat outdoor multi-purpose stadium at 1101 22nd Street North in downtown Birmingham, Alabama, on the BJCC campus in the Uptown Entertainment District. Opened on October 2, 2021, the $175 million facility was designed by Populous and Goodwyn Mills Cawood and built by Brasfield and Gorrie. Named under a 15-year deal with Protective Life Corporation, the stadium replaced the ageing Legion Field as the primary football venue for the UAB Blazers. The stadium is home to UAB Blazers football, Birmingham Legion FC of the USL Championship, the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL, and the JLab Birmingham Bowl. It features approximately 42,000 fixed seats with additional capacity from club areas, premium deck zones, and grassy areas behind the end zones. The venue includes five locker rooms, a permanent UAB football locker room, head coach's office, staff locker room, and dedicated meeting spaces for recruiting. Located on the BJCC campus alongside the Legacy Arena and BJCC Exhibition Halls, Protective Stadium benefits from convenient interstate access, adjacent dining options, and the broader entertainment infrastructure of Birmingham's Uptown district. It also hosts concerts and large-scale events. More information is at protectivestadium.com.
