Warner Theatre - PA

The Warner Theatre is a 2,250-seat Art Deco and French Renaissance performing arts venue at 811 State Street in downtown Erie, Pennsylvania. Commissioned by Warner Bros. and designed by the Chicago architectural firm Rapp and Rapp, the theatre opened on April 10, 1931, with a showing of The Millionaire starring George Arliss and James Cagney. The original interior featured a ten-ton marquee with more than 8,000 coloured lights, a solid bronze freestanding ticket booth and doors, a gold-gilded grand lobby with tapestries and French gold-backed mirrors, Czechoslovakian glass, and crystal chandeliers. After serving as a movie palace until 1976, it was sold to the City of Erie and converted to a performing arts centre in the early 1980s. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, the Warner underwent a multi-phase renovation culminating in a twenty-seven-million-dollar final phase completed in 2022 that added a stage expansion, new backstage space, updated sound and lighting, new loading docks, and a rehearsal hall. The Warner is home to the Erie Philharmonic, Lake Erie Ballet, and the Erie Broadway Series.
