The northern section of Fort Lauderdale Beach Boulevard, designated State Road A1A, runs along the Atlantic oceanfront from Sunrise Boulevard northward toward the Hillsboro Inlet, fronting some of the city's most upscale beachfront residential towers and resort hotels. This quieter stretch contrasts with the more commercial central beach area to the south, offering a calmer atmosphere favoured by residents and long-stay visitors. The beach along this section is wide and well-maintained, with soft sand extending 50 to 100 metres from the low seawall to the waterline at low tide. Lifeguard stations operate at regular intervals during daylight hours, and public access points with shower facilities are spaced along the boulevard. The absence of the wave wall that characterises the central beach section gives this area a more open feel. The Bonnet House Museum and Gardens, a historic estate built in 1920 by artist Frederic Clay Bartlett, occupies a 35-acre parcel on the inland side of the boulevard, preserving a pocket of native barrier island habitat including mangrove wetlands, tropical hardwood hammock, and resident monkeys. Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, a 180-acre coastal park, provides additional natural beach frontage accessible by foot or bicycle. The boulevard is lined with coconut palms and sea grape hedges, and a dedicated cycling and jogging path runs its length. Restaurants and cafes cluster near the Sunrise Boulevard intersection and around the Galleria Fort Lauderdale shopping mall at its southern end. Sun Trolley route provides free hop-on service along the beach corridor. The Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, accessible from the boulevard, preserves the largest remaining tract of barrier island ecosystem in the Fort Lauderdale area, including coastal hammock, mangrove swamp, and a freshwater lagoon. Its beach frontage provides a less developed alternative to the commercial stretch further south, popular with families and nature enthusiasts seeking a quieter seaside experience.
