Opened on 30 July 2020 adjacent to the United States Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, this 60,000-square-foot museum is dedicated to the history and stories of Team USA athletes across all Olympic and Paralympic sports. The building, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro with museum experience design by Gallagher and Associates, occupies a striking angular structure sheathed in perforated aluminium panels that create shifting light patterns throughout the day. The museum experience is personalised through a credential system that allows visitors to select favourite sports, athletes, and accessibility preferences at entry, then delivers tailored content and stories throughout the twelve galleries. Exhibits cover the history of the Olympic movement from ancient Greece to the present, the evolution of sports technology and training methods, and the stories of individual athletes including their paths to competition, personal challenges, and medal-winning moments. Interactive elements include a simulated downhill ski run, a 100-metre dash timer, wheelchair basketball and goalball demonstrations, and a medal ceremony experience. The Parade of Nations gallery recreates the atmosphere of an Olympic opening ceremony. A rooftop terrace provides views toward Pikes Peak and the surrounding Front Range mountains. The museum was designed to be the most accessible museum in America, meeting and exceeding ADA requirements throughout, with adaptive technology, audio description, open captions, and tactile elements integrated into every exhibit. It sits within the city's southwest downtown at 200 South Sierra Madre Street, accessible from Interstate 25. Colorado Springs' identity as the home of American Olympic sport dates from 1978, when the US Olympic Committee relocated its headquarters from New York to the city. The museum building's angular form, clad in panels that shift from copper to silver depending on viewing angle and light conditions, has become an architectural landmark in its own right.
