Six Flags Over Texas

The original Six Flags theme park, opened in 1961 in Arlington, Texas, and named after the six national flags that have flown over the state -- Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States, and the United States. The park's founder, Angus Wynne Jr., designed it as a regional alternative to Disneyland that Texan families could reach by car, and it became the template for the Six Flags chain that eventually expanded to over a dozen parks across North America. The coaster roster includes the New Texas Giant, a steel-hybrid reconstruction of the original 1990 wooden Texas Giant that combines a classic wooden coaster profile with modern steel-track smoothness; the Batman: The Ride inverted coaster; the Mr. Freeze Reverse Blast launched coaster; and a selection of family and junior coasters. In total, the park operates over 100 rides, shows, and attractions across themed sections that originally corresponded to the six historical flags of Texas. The adjacent Hurricane Harbor water park extends the warm-weather offering with slides, wave pools, and aquatic attractions accessible on a combined ticket. Together, the two parks occupy a major entertainment district in Arlington alongside AT&T Stadium, Globe Life Field, and the Esports Stadium, creating one of the densest concentrations of entertainment and sports venues in the United States. The park operates from March through December, with daily hours during summer and Halloween Fright Fest, and weekend-only hours during the spring and autumn shoulder seasons. Holiday in the Park extends the calendar through December with holiday theming and light displays. Located off Interstate 30 between Dallas and Fort Worth, the park draws from the entire DFW metropolitan area of over 7 million people. Special ticketed events including concerts, fireworks nights, and exclusive ride-time sessions supplement the standard operating calendar, providing additional revenue streams and unique experiences for season pass holders.
