Rising on the site of a opera house destroyed by fire, the Orpheum Theatre opened on 19 November 1928 at the corner of South Main and Beale streets in downtown Memphis. Built for around 1.6 million dollars to designs by the renowned Chicago theatre architects C.W. and George L.
