Utrecht has a temperate oceanic climate, slightly more continental than Amsterdam or The Hague due to its inland position. Winters are cold and can bring snow; summers are warm and can be quite hot by Dutch standards. Spring (March–May): 4–16°C (39–61°F). Variable, often rainy, with increasing warmth from April. The city's canal wharves begin to come alive. Summer (June–August): 14–25°C (57–77°F). Warm, with the unique canal wharves becoming the prime social destinations. Heatwaves above 30°C are increasingly common. Autumn (September–November): 7–15°C (45–59°F). Pleasantly cooling. Cycling and café culture continue in good weather. Winter (December–February): 0–6°C (32–43°F). Cold, grey, occasionally snowy. The canal wharves are atmospheric even in winter.
